Management Training - The Basics
When a member of staff is promoted to manager, it is important that they are given a grounding in certain management principles to make sure that they are as effective a manager as possible. All too often, a good worker that gets promoted to manager is just a poor manager to begin with, as they do not have the skills to be an effective manager, and must learn them. It is a good idea to teach these skills to new managers so that they can be as effective as possible as soon as possible. These skills can include:
- Managing time more effectively
- How to delegate
- Goal setting
- Taking responsibility
- Giving feedback
These may seem like very simple things, but they can take time to learn if you do not realise that you need them. Lots of support and training must be provided to new managers, to make sure that they can operate at their new position as effectively as possible, while maintaining the high quality of work that helped them getpromoted to manager in the first place. The last hing you want is for the person to crack under the pressure and either leave the company or ask for their old job back. Neither are helpful to the company in any way.
