Sometimes being able to subtly influence people is the only way to get something done, or to change their way of thinking. Sometimes being able to influence people will help you to negotiate price or conditions. The possibilities are endless. It is a skill that is used everyday by countless people, but the people who are good at it do are never seen to be doing it. The main skills that you require to be able to influence people well are good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to get people to support you in work.
Influencing can take a lot of different shapes and forms, and is not just for a few certain people in a company. Everybody in a company needs to be able to influence other people to some degree or another. Some jobs require it more than others, somepositions might require it’s use every day, where as others may just require it once every now and then. It can make everyones job easier, and is a skill that is well worth training, whether as part of a management training scheme or just as part of general staff training.
