It is hard to train someone who has no leadership skills into someone who is a good leader. However, if someone seems to have some natural leadership abilities, then they will usually respond very well to help and training and should hopefully gain some insight into how to turn their natural leadership skills into something even better.

There are quite a few skills that make a good leader. For example, good communication is essential, as is being able to explain to people what you want. Being quick witted and thinking on your feet is also very important. However, a sometimes overlooked skill in a leader is a sense of humour. Humour can make difficult tasks easier, and it is important that leaders have at least some sense of humour. As well as this, leaders need empathy, a lot of empathy. They need to understand what other people are feeling, and why they are doing the things they are doing, so that they can help them and lead them as well as possible.

Helping leaders to improve can be a very tricky thing to do, especially as it can be hard to even define what a good leader is or does, as a lot of it goes unnoticed until someone doesn’t do it. However, if you try and help natural leaders improve upon their current skills, then they should turn into the type of leaders that all companies require - good ones.
